About Us
📣 Exciting News from Tack Attic! 🐴
Tack Attic is your destination for quality new and used tack and apparel for both horse and rider — now operating independently in White River Junction, VT 05001.
Founded and operated by Betsy Coburn-Porter, Tack Attic grew from her time working at Strafford Saddlery, where she first discovered her passion for consignment in 2021. While initially learning from more experienced staff, Betsy quickly immersed herself in the world of secondhand equestrian gear. After taking a brief hiatus for the birth of her son, Jaxon (who many customers now know and love!), Betsy returned with a renewed focus and a vision for what’s next.
After nearly three decades at the helm, Annie Penfield, owner of Strafford Saddlery, has graciously passed the reins of the consignment side of the business to Betsy. With deep gratitude and respect for Annie’s legacy, Tack Attic is proud to carry it forward — with a fresh twist and a new name.

👀 And just for fun: scroll down to see a few of Betsy’s favorite horses from past and present — because we all know the horses shape the journey. 💛

Janet’s Hope (Stella) - Betsy’s first OTTB that made her fall in love with Thoroughbreds. Although Stella is a quirky gal, Betsy learned a ton about horse training and care working with this beautiful queen. Stella finished off Betsy’s final year of 4H in 2018 and then embarked on some eventing adventures along with trail riding, dressage, and in 2024 they did a bit of western dressage. Unfortunately, Stella had old stifle and tendon injuries causing her issues that needed more help than Betsy was able to handle, thankfully ReRun Thoroughbred Adoption in NY (where Stella came from) graciously welcomed Stella back in the fall of 2024 where she’s been retired and can receive the treatment she needs to stay as pasture sound and happy as possible. Stella is only 12 years old so this was a huge blow but Betsy decided to give her back, knowing it was what was best for her health.

A Cut Above (EJ) - Incredible horse of the past, cow horse turned Dressage King; EJ was Betsy’s step up from Ginger for trail riding and leisure on her dad’s beautiful farm in Danby, VT. Betsy acquired him from Chipman Stables when she was 12 years old and in 2022, decided to bring him to her home in Bethel to see if he could compete in dressage. He proved to be quite a hot ticket in the dressage arena but he was getting some age and she only planned to keep him on for a season of competition. In early 2023 at roughly 26 years of age, he succumbed to colic. This is the hardest part of horse ownership and Betsy will always cherish the memories she has with EJ.

Concho - Betsy’s ride or die, though a tricky dude who raced 89 times and has no doubt had quite the life, he’s been a very fun and athletic project to bring along. He has given Betsy the confidence she lost following some horses with rather difficult tendencies to the jumps; Concho is always ready for a challenge and has given Betsy her wings back. Concho came from Diamond Pine Farm in Castleton, VT.

Here’s to Jet Lark (Jetta) - Betsy started this mare as a 7 month old weanling. Jetta turned 17 June 14th of this year and has been teaching kids to ride at Horse Amour in Castleton, VT since Betsy grew out of her in 2015. Betsy hopped back on for an eventing trials (pictured above) in 2019.
Fiddle Faddle (Ginger) - A feisty little pony from Crowley’s Auction Barn who gave Betsy wings (whether on purpose or not) and was a great companion for over 13 years. She passed peacefully in May of 2019 at around 28 years old.

Salazar - Sal came to Betsy in Summer 2025. He is a gorgeous 6 year old, 16.2h Standardbred pacer in from Pennsylvania. She hopes he will be able to take over for Concho when he is ready to retire, Concho will be 20 in 2029 so she is looking toward the future with this handsome guy. The goal for Sal short term is getting him more balanced under saddle as he spent his formative years as a cart horse with the Amish. Long term, she hopes to get him going in Western Dressage, Classical Dressage, Eventing, Ranch Riding, and Endurance. A little bit of everything!!! Isn’t he a stunner? He completed his first baby 3 phase eventing trials in October ‘25 and received high point dressage against 30 competitors as well as a blue ribbon for his division, the future is bright for this guy!
